Who we are

Our mission is to share our love of classical and contemporary orchestra and chamber music with the community. We take pride in presenting meaningful and challenging orchestral works that rival the programming of large professional orchestras. DC Strings Workshop (DC Strings) works to build community and expand horizons by engaging diverse audiences, supplying instruments to deserving students, and working to expose students and adults alike to music of women and underrepresented people of color. Given the pandemic, DC Strings is offering physically distanced performances both in-person and virtually while keeping our musicians and community safe. Please, take a look at our concert schedule, musicians’ profiles, and come join us for a memorable afternoon of music.

DC Strings was founded in 2016. In our inaugural season, DC Strings presented 10 concerts throughout the D.C. metropolitan area. In 2017 alone, DC Strings presented over 20 concerts. In 2018 DC Strings performed 30 concerts, including collaborations with the National Park Service, DC Public Libraries and numerous DC Public Schools. In our 4th Season DC Strings performed at THE KENNEDY CENTER as part of the REACH’s opening debut in September 2019, under the baton of Maestra Jeri Lynn Johnson. Our 4th season was cut short in March due to the pandemic, but we were happy to present over 10 concerts from September 2019 – March 2020. Many of these concerts were free of charge to the public, presented in collaboration with churches and choral societies in the D.C. region, including Covenant Baptist Church, St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, St. Peter’s on Capitol Hill, National United Methodist Church, and the historic Metropolitan American Methodist Episcopal Church (AME).
