Kate Borden
Viola

Kate’s love of music was fostered from an early age by her musical family — her mother was a professional clarinetist and her grandfather was a conductor. She began singing in choirs in the first grade, but fell in love with string instruments when she began playing the viola in third grade.

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, she played in many ensembles, ranging from chamber groups to symphonies to musical theater pit orchestras.
She then matriculated to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she used the UNC Symphony Orchestra to relax while she earned degrees in Mathematics and Arab Studies.

Kate now works as a quantitative risk analyst at a government consulting firm, and plays music whenever she can. She enjoys playing with the Howard University Symphony and with the DC Strings Workshop.
