Jenna Day, owns Day Violins LLC, a full-service string shop in Northern Virginia, with her husband, Jason Day. Jenna grew up with a passion for the arts and played the piano for her school choir, was the artist for her yearbooks, performed in school musicals, made the scenery and back drop designs and was the Captain of the Rifle Squad for the Color Guard.

In college, she continued in the marching band through college.  Her first major was graphic design, then fashion design, but she ended up going into Social Work and Gerontology.

She worked as a Child Protective Service Worker, Adoption and Foster Care Coordinator, a Rape Crisis Counselor and in Hospice.  She also taught Drug and Alcohol Classes for many years for the City of Alexandria. She also owned a wedding and design business for many years.

She and her husband, Jason Day, started Day Violins at their kitchen table while he was the orchestra teacher at Mount Vernon High School in Fairfax County. Throughout the years, they spent countless hours building relationships with professionals, perfecting their quality of instruments and doing everything they can to bring music into the lives of others.

She became interested in Music Education Advocacy when the Fairfax County Budget was in jeopardy when two of her children were young.  Since then, she has become involved in Advocacy in any way she can.  She currently serves as the President for the Oakton Orchestra Boosters at Oakton High School,  Parent Liaison for FACE (Fairfax Arts Coalition for Education), on the Arts Advisory Board for The Academy at George Mason, Co-Chair for the Mason Academy Parents Group (MAP) and The Arts Advisory Board for Arts at Mason at George Mason University. She is also heavily involved with a program called Instruments in the Attic. This program provides instruments to those in need throughout the world.  Day Violins donates countless hours to fix and store all the stringed instruments at little or no cost to the organization.  Through this program, Jenna has helped instruments be shipped to several countries, local schools and has helped start a music therapy program at Synergy Youth Treatment Center.   She also adjudicates applications for Music For All’s Advocacy in Action Awards. She is an active member of NAMM (National Association of Music Merchandisers) and travels every year to Washington, DC to advocate for music education at the national level. She has also advocated at the state level and is heavily involved at the local level.

When asked to join the board of directors of DC Strings, Jenna knew instantly that this was an organization that was perfect for her passion for music and music education. During her years as a board member, Jenna has testified in front of the DC Councilmembers and met with them personally to advocate for DC Strings.  Because of her business, Day Violins, she has been able to help supply instruments to students and other services.  Her motto is “Talent is universal, opportunity is not” and her goal is to make sure she does whatever she can to provide that opportunity to whoever she can. As Board President, Jenna will do all she can to continue the mission of DC Strings and continue to educate and provide outreach so others can experience the value of music education and power music holds.

She and her husband have four children, all Suzuki Method trained musicians in flute, cello, viola and violin. In her spare time, she also owns Take Note, a home decor and gift boutique business which provides unique home decor and music lover themed gifts.  She also loves floral design, hosting parties, reading, traveling, working out and doing home improvement projects.

JENNA HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF THE
